RESEARCH «CITY» IN THE CLASSICAL CONCEPTS OF THE FOREIGN SCIENTISTS

In modern social philosophy acquired special significance of the study of cities and urban space. Urban Studies as the direction of scientific knowledge helps to find the answers. Rapid urbanization - a distinctive feature of modern civilization processes. Referring to the research of the city can comprehend and describe the many social processes and phenomena. This article focuses on the classical theories of Urban Studies. Specifically - the understanding of the «city» among scientists - adherents of this view. We have considered the ideas of F. Engels, Max Weber, Georg Simmel. Particular attention is paid to the members of the Chicago school of urban studies. On the basis of their works display a new concept of «city». Revealed the value of the classical theory of Urban Studies today.
