SYMBOLIC UNDERSTANDING OF CULTURE FND CREATIVITY IN THE PAVEL FLORENSKY’S «CONCRETE METAPHYSIC»

The article investigates the symbolic understanding of culture and art in philosophy of Pavel Florensky. The paper concludes that understanding the character in the “concrete metaphysic” of P. Florensky due, on the one hand, the Eastern patristic, on the other – the symbolism of V. Ivanov, with a third – Russian philosophical and theological tradition. The philosophical symbolism of P. Florensky is an indivisible unity of the ideal and the material in which the divergence of ideas and empirical reality impossible. The system of “concrete metaphysic”, which recognizes the symbolic reality, represents the culture as a process: the phenomenon of culture through symbols embodied at once and in the substance and in the idea. However, the essence of the culture is disclosed in practice in finding the characters and their typology and recreation activities in optimum conditions of functioning of characters. Characteristic features are the symbol of understanding antinomy, magic and Neo-Platonism. The most striking example of the symbol in art for P. Florensky is an icon like the perfect sacred and artistic phenomenon, endowed with energy archetype.
