The article presents analysis of “Aphorisms” ор. 13 and Fifteenth quartet of D.D. Shostakovich from the point of view of an embodiment in these compositions of tanatological subject is carried out. Methodological base of research is works of A. Demichev, T. Artemyeva, R. Krasilnikov devoted to judgment of process of dying and also philosophical works of N. Berdyaev, P. Florensky, S. Frank. During the musicological analysis of works we found essential distinction in Thanatos›s esthetic mode, an author›s position and a stylistic component.Thus «Aphorisms» are considered as the composition in which there are generating principles of Shostakovich’s works devoteded to a subject of Death. It is two-planned character of the composition based on division of spheres of Live and Dead, the detailed description of the moment of dying, a musical embodiment of idea of indissoluble communication of Love and Death.
