THE ROLE OF THE SOLO CHURCH CANTATA IN LUTHERAN CHURCH SERVICE BY THE EXAMPLE OF I.S.BACH’S CANTATAS

In this article the author considers the I.S. Bach’s church cantata as the part of Lutheran church service which is carrying out a certain function. In the cantata the author discloses the traits of a sermon and medieval Exemplum that defines the general content of each composition, features of its development and musical language. Like the sermon, the text of the cantata consists of the thesis, its development, arguments and a final conclusion. The text includes quotes and allusions of sacred texts which are addressed to the consecrated listener. Function of the cantata in church service is illustrative, its contents relies on personal experience of parishioners, the narration is led from the first person. Material for the analysis: cantatas No. 51 «Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen», No. 53 «Schlage doch gewünschte Stunde», No. 82 «Ich habe genug».
