Article is devoted to an impact which the Lutheran liturgy had on I. S. Bach’s cantatas. The particular six-parts all-in-one composition included in a ceremony was created thanks to it, and its parts are functionally similar to sections of church service. Their role is defined by the Saxon church canon. The author comes to a conclusion that the introductory and finishing sections are under construction on the basis of choral melodies under the influence of the textual-musical Introit’s form. The recitative and the subsequent aria are functionally similar to the common or personal prayer connected with a subject for church service. A function of the finishing choral is a thanksgiving and confirmation of acceptance of God’s gifts. The cantata constructed on the pattern «chorus (chorale)-recitative-aria-recitative-aria-chorale» functionally replenishes a liturgy but keeps the unity as an art unit.
