This article contains material about traditional folk crafts in the culture of Western Siberia, their aesthetic and utilitarian features. The author considers the specifics of the traditional folk art in the West Siberian region and determines its creative potential. The work also provides an overview of the basic culture of the indigenous peoples who inhabited the territory. That is, according to the author, folk crafts carries information about the time and place of its origin and is inextricably linked with the history of the nation, its customs, ceremonies and festivals. Further, the author analyses some types of traditional folk arts and crafts. The material used and the artistic merit are also determined. It was noted that the Russian folk aesthetics is characterized not only by a heightened sense of expediency, but also such an interesting quality as the trend for the transformation of nature. Finally, the author emphasis the fact that the studying of experience and using of folk art samples allows us to understand plastically expressive features of decorative images solutions. Also the ideological and educational value of folk art is quite significant and contributes to the revival of spirituality and enriches the intellect. Therefore it is necessary to pay more attention to the problems associated with traditional folk art of the West Siberian region, as well as to introduce the elements of art in the modern teaching and education that can open more opportunities in educational work.
