The article considers such low-studied aspect of romantic culture as its interaction with the Franciscan aesthetics, which gained its new specific value during the period of Romanticism, and the interpretation on Franciscan theme in life and creative self-consciousness of Hungarian composer Ferenc Liszt, who is one of the brightest representatives of musical romanticism. Religion and, in particular, Christianity is an integral part of the romantic culture, being part of it and a source which harbored many works. The existence of religious «motive» in Romanticism, on the one hand, accepted fact, and on the other, is still the subject of scientific debate. St.Fransis was for the composer one of the perfect embodiments of christian ideals of service, which combined in itself the inspired gift of a poet and mission of a preacher. Such attempt of searching an alter-ego as part of the person’s spiritual world reflects one of the archetype qualities of a romantic artist.
