P.P. Pasolini was one of the cleverest and bravest analysts of Italian society. He demonstrated a unique and extraordinary cultural versatility. He wrote poems and novels; he directed fiction films and documentaries; he wrote essays and articles about language and literature. The aim of this article is to show in detail how the Italian Film director and writer P. P. Pasolini have been influenced by F. M. Dostoevsky’s novels. Stated by Pasolini himself, the novels opened his eyes to Russian culture and created a lasting interest. Within this article are numerous examples of the filmmaker citing Dostoevsky’s work, including Pasolini’s article “Fëdor Dostoevskij. Delitto e castigo” (Fyodor Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment”). This Pasolini’s article has not been translated into Russian before. More of the filmmaker’s movies, interviews, and reminiscences are included in this. Using comparative, analytical, and psychological methods, conclusions of Dostoevsky’s influence are made here.
